Services

Six services covering a cargo operation at Paradip Port, from the vessel to onward rail and road transport.

L.M. Hati & Co. holds an active stevedoring licence and is a registered Steamer Agent with Paradip Port Authority. To discuss a requirement, send an enquiry with the vessel, cargo and timing details.

Stevedoring

Stevedoring covers the vessel side of a cargo operation: loading cargo into a ship's holds and discharging it at the berth. L.M. Hati & Co. carries out this work under an active stevedoring licence, across dry bulk, break-bulk and project cargo.

Operations are organised hatch by hatch, with on-board supervision maintained throughout. We coordinate with the vessel's master, its agents, the port and cargo interests, so that work at the hatches stays in step with the vessel's requirements and with cargo movement on shore. Bulk discharge can be carried out using harbour mobile cranes (HMCs) at the berth, and we remain in contact with the vessel's Master from berthing until discharge is complete, with daily discharge reports to cargo interests.

Cargo Handling

Cargo handling covers the shore side of a port operation: moving cargo between the berth, storage areas within the port and onward transport by rail or road.

During discharge, cargo is cleared from the quay and moved to storage or directly to onward transport, so that space at the quay does not hold up work at the hatches. During loading, cargo is brought forward from storage in step with the vessel's loading. In both directions, the work is planned around the next stage of movement, whether that is a storage area, a railway rake or road transport.

For imported bulk cargo, a typical sequence runs from discharge at the berth to transport from the wharf to the designated plot, stacking, and any shifting required, such as from a non-siding plot to a railway siding plot, before dispatch by rail or road.

Equipment & Machinery Support

Different cargoes and stages of an operation call for different equipment. We provide loaders, excavators, cranes, grabs and forklifts, either from our own equipment or arranged for the operation, according to the cargo type, handling method and operational requirement.

Equipment is planned alongside the sequence of work so that it is in place when each stage begins, whether on board, at the quay, in storage areas or at rake and road loading points. Details for a specific operation can be discussed as part of an enquiry.

Rake Handling

For many cargoes, rail is the link between the port and inland origins or destinations. L.M. Hati & Co. handles the loading and unloading of rakes at the port, and the movement of cargo between the rake, storage areas and the vessel operation.

We coordinate the placement and release of rakes and plan the work within the railway's free time for loading or unloading, alongside the storage, vessel and other port-side operations it connects to. Rake allotment remains with the railway; our role covers cargo handling and coordination at the port end.

Before loading, wagons are inspected to check that they are reasonably clean and free from previous material, to reduce the risk of contamination, and we provide wagon loading details and rake dispatch reports as rakes are completed.

Tippers on Hire

Tippers move bulk cargo over short distances within the port area: between the berth and storage areas, from storage to rake or vessel loading points, and in other port-side transport.

We have our own tippers and can arrange additional tippers when a requirement calls for more. They can be hired as part of a cargo operation we are handling, where their use is planned alongside the stevedoring and shore-side work, or for a defined transport requirement on its own. Availability is confirmed at the enquiry stage.

Steamer Agency

L.M. Hati & Co. is a registered Steamer Agent with Paradip Port Authority, providing ship agency services at the port. As agent, we coordinate vessel calls on behalf of the vessel's principals, working with the vessel, the port authorities and other operational stakeholders.

Coordination runs through each stage of the call, from arrival planning through berthing, cargo work and departure, with principals kept informed as the call progresses. Where we are also handling the vessel's cargo, agency coordination and cargo operations can be planned together.

Planning vessel and cargo operations at Paradip Port

Our work connects vessel loading and discharge with shore-side handling, storage and onward rail or road movement. Steamer agency supports coordination of vessel calls with the port and operational stakeholders.

What is the difference between stevedoring and cargo handling?
