Who we are
L.M. Hati & Co. is a maritime services firm based at Paradip Port, Odisha. We provide stevedoring, cargo handling and steamer agency services, supporting vessels and their cargo through operations at the port.
Our work sits where ship, port and cargo meet: loading and discharging vessels, moving cargo on shore, and keeping the parties involved coordinated so that each operation runs in order.
Experience built at Paradip
L.M. Hati & Co. was established in 1982. Our documented work at Paradip goes back to 1985, and that experience has been built in this port's working environment, where our operations remain centred. That experience includes long-term engagements: since 2001–02, stevedoring and handling of export iron ore and imported steam coal, coking coal and limestone, and since 2022–23, handling of imported gypsum.
Long familiarity with the port means understanding how vessel operations are sequenced at its berths, how cargo moves between quay, storage and onward rail or road transport, and which authorities and stakeholders need to be involved at each stage.
Government records have listed L.M. Hati & Co. among the stevedoring licence holders at Paradip, and the milestones below trace that record. The company continues to operate under an active stevedoring licence today.
What we do today
A cargo operation at the port is rarely a single task. Stevedoring covers the vessel side, including loading and discharge on board. Cargo handling covers the shore side, moving cargo between the berth, storage areas and onward transport. Rake handling connects port operations with railway movement.
Equipment and machinery support, together with tippers on hire, is arranged according to cargo type and operational requirements. Steamer agency covers coordination around a vessel's call, working with the vessel, port authorities and other operational stakeholders.
These activities depend on one another, and each stage affects the next. Each service is described in more detail on our Services page.
Cargo experience
Our cargo experience covers dry bulk, break-bulk and project cargo. Dry bulk experience includes coal, pet coke and coke, iron ore, iron ore fines and pellets, manganese ore, chrome ore, gypsum and limestone. Steel products are handled as break-bulk, and project cargo is planned case by case. Fertilizer, the cargo with which our documented history at Paradip begins, remains part of that experience.
Different cargoes call for different handling methods, equipment and precautions. The full list of cargo types is available on our Cargo page.
How we work

A cargo operation involves the vessel, port, cargo interests and transport. We keep the relevant parties connected so that loading, discharge and onward movement proceed in step. - Supervision
Work is supervised on board and ashore so that operations at the hatch and on the quay follow the agreed plan. - Safe working practices
Operations are planned and carried out with attention to safe working practices and applicable port requirements. - Reliability
We commit to what we can deliver and keep principals informed as the operation progresses. - Accountability
Responsibility for each operation is kept clear from planning through completion. - Local knowledge
Practical familiarity with the port's procedures, operating environment and stakeholders is applied to each assignment.
